2008 A-10 Rowing Championship Results

Pennsauken, N.J. - The University of Rhode Island captured its first-ever Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship on the Cooper River this afternoon. The win snapped a 12-championship title streak held by Massachusetts which was the longest streak in any sport in Atlantic 10 history.

Rhode Island (135) beat out second-place Massachusetts (119) by a 15-point margin. The Rams led the meet from start to finish after capturing first place in the first event, the Varsity 8 (7:09.0), and finishing the day with three gold medals and two runner-up results. Saint Joseph's (113) finished in third-place, just six points off the Minutewomen, while Dayton (81) was fourth. Rounding out the scoring was Duquesne (78) in fifth, George Washington (72) in sixth, Temple (61) was seventh, Fordham (47) finished eighth and La Salle (18) was ninth.

Rhode Island captured gold in two Varsity events, including the Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4 (8:24.2), and took first-place in the Lightweight 4 (8:05.7).

Massachusetts finished first in the 2nd Varsity 8 (7:11.7), the Novice 4 (8:25.9) and the Quad (7:47.7). Saint Joseph's took gold in the Novice 8 (7:20.8), George Washington captured the 2nd Novice 8 (7:53.6) while Duquesne was a winner in the Lightweight 8 (7:32.3).

Rhode Island head coach Shelagh Donohoe was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.
