Preseason All-Conference Team

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charlotte teammates Hailey Beam and Whitney Weinraub, the reigning Atlantic 10 Midfielder and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively, highlight the 2009 A-10 preseason women's soccer All-Conference team, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Beam led the league in goals (17), assists (13) and points (47) a year ago en route to earning NSCAA/adidas All-America third-team distinction. Twice named the Most Outstanding Performer of the A-10 Championship, the Cornelius, N.C., native enters her senior campaign with 25 career goals. Weinraub was tabbed the 2008 A-10 Offensive Player of the Year after amassing 34 points on 12 goals and 10 assists, including three game-winning tallies. The junior forward registered 45 shots and was named to the All-Championship Team as the 49ers claimed their second consecutive Atlantic 10 crown and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tourney.

Members of last year's All-Conference first-team who earned preseason honors this year include Dayton senior forward Mandi Bäck (8 goals, 3 assists, 19 points), junior backer Whitney Bryant (1 goal, 6 assists, 8 points) of Charlotte, Fordham senior backer Lauren Bustos (0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point), junior forward Anna Cunningham (10 goals, 10 assists, 30 points) of St. Bonaventure and Dayton senior midfielder Colleen Gibson (1 goal, 9 assists, 11 points). Bäck has garnered first-team All-Conference honors in each of the past three seasons, while Bustos was named the 2008 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year.

Second-team All-Conference selections in 2008 on the preseason All-Conference team include sophomore defender Kathleen Beljan (0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points) of Dayton, La Salle senior midfielder Traci DePasquale (5 goals, 10 assists, 20 points), junior midfielder Katie McDermott (4 goals, 4 assists, 12 points) of Fordham and Duquesne junior goalie Gabby Morrin (0.88 gaa, .800 save %, 5-2-3 record).
 

 

The preseason All-Rookie team includes teammates Alexis Garcia and Colleen Williams of Dayton; George Washington's Molly Bruh and Samie Cloutier; Zovel Hyre and Gabrielle Pakhitigian of La Salle; Charlotte's Taylor Rovito; Emily Cota of Massachusetts; Rhode Island's Jennifer Barrientos; Ali Yozwiak of Saint Joseph's; and Xavier's Jennifer Perri.
