Haycook, Waters Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards
09/10/2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - La Salle's Kelsey Haycook and Dayton's Nicole Waters earned Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, the league office announced Monday. The weekly awards are for games played September 4 - September 9. Haycook recorded a hat-trick and an assist for a total of seven points in the Explorers' 6-2 win over Seton Hall (5-2). Her seven points is a single-game high for Haycook; she tallied six points twice in the 2011 season (Xavier, Temple). Prior to the loss on Friday, Seton Hall had only surrendered two goals in the 2012 season. The Point Pleasant, N.J., native also found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season in a 3-2 loss against Villanova. The sophomore was named to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts against Seton Hall and Villanova. Waters was named Rookie of the Week after tallying her second goal of the season and first collegiate assist, helping to lead the Flyers to a 2-0 weekend against Harvard and Northeastern. The midfielder's assist proved to be the game-winner to teammate Juliana Libertin in a 3-1 win versus Harvard, the Crimson's first loss of the season. The Terra Cotta, Ontario, native earned starts in both matches and recorded five shots in each contest. About the A-10 The Atlantic 10 Conference was formed in 1976.
