Williams, McHenry Earn A-10 Weekly Honors
Oct. 1, 2012
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton's Colleen Williams and Charlotte's Annika McHenry have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday. The awards are for games played September 25-30. Williams earned Player of the Week honors after powering the Dayton offense to two A-10 conference wins against Massachusetts (Sept. 28) and Rhode Island (Sept. 30). The senior forward tallied four goals and four assists in the first weekend of conference play, totaling 12 points, doubling her career high for points in a single game. The Titusville, N.J., native tied Dayton's career goal record (52), and owns Flyers' records in career points (149) and assists (45). Her eight points against Rhode Island, which included her second career hat trick, is an A-10 individual best this season for a single game. Williams was also named Top Drawer Women's Soccer Player of the Week and leads the Atlantic 10 in shots (68) and assists (9). Dayton improved to 8-3-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play and will continue its conference slate on the road at Butler and Saint Louis. McHenry garnered Rookie of the Week honors for her defensive efforts off the bench in three wins last week, including her first two collegiate conference games. With goalkeeper Alex Kubrick injured just six minutes into the game, McHenry stepped in the goal and allowed just one score in almost 200 minutes of play, including a shared shutout against Francis Marion (Sept. 25) and her first collegiate shutout versus Richmond (Sept. 30). McHenry faced a career-high 16 shots against VCU, coming up with five saves in the overtime victory. She then held conference opponent Richmond to 12 shots, tallying four saves in the 2-0 victory. The Cary, N.C., native finished the week with 13 saves and a 92.9 save percentage in 274 minutes in the net. The 49ers improved to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play and will travel to George Washington for their only game of the week.
