Washington, Hawkins, Sousa Earn Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— La Salle sophomore forward Renee Washington and Saint Joseph’s Mo Hawkins were named Atlantic 10 Conference women’s soccer Co-Players of the Week the league announced Monday. Massachusetts freshman Tori Sousa earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards are for games played Oct. 10 - Oct. 16.

Washington earned Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after tallying her second overtime game-winner in a game with first-place implications. The sophomore from Pennington, N.J. assisted on a first-half goal and then tallied the golden goal, her fifth game-winner, in the 95th minute of the second overtime.

Hawkins turned a hat trick and tallied an assist in a 7-1 win over Temple. The Hawks leading scorer, Hawkins assisted on SJU’s first goal and added a pair of goals in the first half to give SJU a 3-0 edge at the intermission. Playing sparingly in the second half, the sophomore from Philadelphia added her third goal to up the SJU lead to 4-0 before exiting the game shortly after.

Sousa scored first two goals of her career over the weekend, starting off with the eventual game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Fordham. The freshman from Nashua, N.H., followed up on Sunday by becoming just the second player to score on La Salle this season. Sousa’s goal gave the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead in a battle for first with the Explorers.
