Top-Seeded La Salle Advances to Semifinals
Nov. 1, 2012 SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. - Top-seeded La Salle scored a goal in each half to defeat Charlotte, 2-0, and advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship at the University of Rhode Island Soccer Complex Thursday. The Explorers (15-4-1) will advance to tomorrow’s semifinal game at 5:00 pm and will face either fourth-seeded Butler or fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure, depending on the outcome the second quarterfinal match. Maryam Huseini struck first for the Explorers on a free kick in the 33rd minute to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead. Huseini tallied five shots in the contest, including four on goal. As a team, La Salle out shot Charlotte 26-8, putting 14 shots at the net. In the 63rd minute, Amanda Komarnicki netted her first goal of the season off a cross from Gabriella Carbone to put the Explorers on top, 2-0. Charlotte finishes the season at 10-8-2.
