NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dayton senior midfielder Mandi Bäck, a four-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection, has been named a NSCAA first-team All-American. She is the program's first-ever NSCAA first-team All-America selection. The last A-10 standout tabbed first-team All-America by the NSCAA was Massachusetts' Erica Iverson in 1997.
Bäck led the Flyers in scoring for the fourth consecutive season, tallying eight goals and nine assists in her senior campaign. She put away the deciding penalty kick in a shootout against Marquette that sent Dayton to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. She was the 2007 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and the 2008 Ohio Player of the Year. Bäck was named to the A-10 All-Championship team twice (2008 & 2009).
Bäck intends to continue her soccer career at the next level. She finished her UD career with 37 goals (including 12 game-winners), 16 assists and 90 points. She played 6,308 minutes in 84 games during her four-year illustrious career. Her 37 goals place her fourth all-time at UD, while her 90 points rank fifth.
The North Olmstead, Ohio, resident is one of 10 student-athletes from the Conference to garner NCAA All-Region distinction. Joining Bäck on the first-team were teammates Katherine Boone and Kathleen Beljan, along with Charlotte's Whitney Weinraub. The second-team includes Jen Ruhe of Richmond, Andrea Barklage of Saint Louis, Charlotte's Hailey Beam and Dayton's Lauren MacCormick. La Salle's Traci DePasquale and Colleen Williams of Dayton were tabbed third-team All-Region.
