Player of the Week Brittney Schmidt - Saint Louis
Senior, Shortstop, Columbia, Ill. /Columbia HS
Schmidt was Saint Louis' top offensive threat, hitting .500, during the Cardinal Classic last weekend...tallied her first collegiate home run and ran her hitting streak to a team-high eight games. Schmidt began the tournament by collecting two of the Billikens' three hits in the opener against No. 15/17 Louisville...both of her hits went for extra bases - her first collegiate homer and a double, and she recorded the team's lone RBI...in the nightcap against Purdue, Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs...also registered a double in each of SLU's final two games against No. 15/17 Louisville and Northern Illinois...completed the tournament with 13 total bases, a 1.083 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage...also hit four doubles in the Cardinal Classic after entering the tournament with just three for her entire collegiate career.
Pitchers of the Week
Jen Mineau - Fordham
Sophomore, Pitcher, Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central HS
Mineau posted three wins, two shutouts, and 44 strikeouts in five appearances at the Palm Springs Classic...opened the tournament with a three-hit shutout of #19/24 Texas A&M, recording 15 strikeouts while giving up just three hits...now holds the Rams' top two strikeout games for a pitcher after breaking the mark last week...gave up just one earned run and struck out 11 batters in a win over Oregon State, Fordham's first-ever win over a Pac-10 program...closed the tournament with a four-hit, 13-strikeout shutout of UNLV...improved to 5-1 on the season with 75 strikeouts to only three walks and a 0.72 ERA.
Emily Jeffery - Charlotte
Senior, Pitcher, Matthews, N.C./Butler HS
Jeffery struck out a program-record 17 batters in a 8-1 victory against South Carolina, which included striking out the side in four different innings...totaled 36 strikeouts on the week and improved her overall record to 8-0 and lowered her ERA to 0.91.
Rookie of the Week Jamie LaBovick - Fordham
Freshman, Pitcher/Infield, Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain HS
LaBovick connected for two home runs and four RBI at the Palm Springs Classic...sealed the Rams' 4-0 victory over #19/24 Texas A&M with a two-run home run...also had a two-run homer in Fordham's shutout win over UNLV...made two pitching appearances as well...threw 2.1 innings of one-hit relief against #13/14 California.
