NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Charlotte’s Chelsea Ingersoll and Dayton’s Kayla English were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Annie Marcopolus of Temple was also honored as the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Rookie of the Week.

Ingersoll, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., led the 49ers in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, and total bases during the week. In the ninth inning against Middle Tennessee, Ingersoll stepped up and belted her fourth home run of the season to give Charlotte the 7-4 lead. Ingersoll was 3-for-4 in a dominating 13-2 win over Southern, while also going 3-for-3 against North Carolina.

English, a sophomore from Grapevine, Texas, struck out 18 batters in 13 innings of work this past weekend, including an 11 strikeout performance against Furman and six strikeouts against UNC-Greensboro.

Freshman Macropolus went 7-for-12 in four games this past weekend. The Newtown, Pa., native led Temple, recording five RBI and one homerun. Macropolus also had a slugging percentage of .833, went 3-for-4 with four RBI against Georgetown, and now leads the team with a .538 batting average.
