NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham’s Elise Fortier and Saint Joseph’s Taryn Ashway were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. Carlee Gray of George Washington was also honored as the league’s Rookie of the Week.

Fortier, a junior from Coventry, R.I., batted .556 (5-9) for the week with five home runs and eight RBI including a walk-off three-run home run against Binghamton. Fortier also scored 12 runs for the Rams and added eight walks in four games to post a .765 on-base percentage.

Ashway posted a record of 2-0 last week with victories against Penn and Drexel. The Waynesboro, Pa., native, allowed no runs and only six hits over 12 innings pitched for the week.

Gray, the freshman from Elk Grove, Calif., helped lead George Washington to a perfect 5-0 week by batting .429 (6-14) with a home run, seven RBI and five runs scored. Gray’s sixth inning grand slam against Ohio State broke a 4-4 tie to give George Washington an 8-4 victory.
