Philadelphia- La Salle Director of Athletics, Dr. Thomas Brennan, announced the appointment of Brianne Brown as head softball coach. Brown was an assistant under former coach Joe DiPietro during the 2008 season.
"We were very impressed with Brianne's knowledge of the game and commitment to advancing the program," said Brennan. "Brianne's relationship with the players is also a valuable asset that we are sure will help make the transition as the new coach a smooth one."
Brown is a former softball standout at Drexel University, where she played third base and was a two-year captain along with a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) second-team All-Conference selection her senior year. She batted .312 in her final season and led the team in homeruns. She still holds two Drexel softball records including career homeruns and career walks. She also ranks third in career doubles, seventh in career runs and 11th in career hits.
"I am looking forward to La Salle softball's future with Brianne at the helm. Her youth will bring plenty of energy to the program, and her previous experience with the team will add stability and continuity," said La Salle Assistant Director of Athletics Christopher Kane, who has administrative oversight of the softball program.
In her role as assistant coach under former La Salle Head Coach Joe DiPietro, Brown's responsibilities included working with infielders and outfielders. She also has previous coaching experience with the Newtown Rock Gold- a tournament softball team.
The Levittown, PA native majored in Corporate Communication at Drexel and is enrolled in La Salle's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
