Two A-10 Volleyball Players Named AVCA All-Americans
Jan. 2, 2007 Omaha, NE - Senior middle blocker Faye Barhorst of Dayton and senior outside hitter Tatyana Menshikova of Saint Louis have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention team as announced by the AVCA. Barhorst, a Fort Loramie, OH, native, was also named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American each of the last two seasons while earning AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year honors in 2003. A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Barhorst is UD's all-time leader in hitting percentage (.384), kills (1,796) and blocks (668). She ranked fourth nationally in hitting percentage this season at .431. Barhorst was also named to the A-10 All-Championship Team in each of the last three seasons. Menshikova, hailing from Ivanovo, Russia, led the Atlantic 10 Conference in kills per game at 4.53 and finished the season with 358 kills in just 79 games. In Conference matches, she ranked fifth in the A-10 in hitting percentage with a .323 mark. Menshikova closed out her career 10th on the all-time kills chart with 933. She was a first-team All-Conference selection and selected to the first team All-Northeast Region squad. She becomes the second Billiken to earn All-America honors after Aida Antanaviciute earned the distinction in 2004. The selections are made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: chair -Pi'i Aiu, Colorado; Laura Farina, Auburn, Rich Feller, California; Barry Goldberg, American; Nancy Mueller, Illinois-Chicago; Jolene Nagel, Duke; Mark Rosen, Michigan; and Pat Stangle, Wyoming. The AVCA Awards Chair is New Hampshire Head Coach Jill Hirschinger.
