Nov. 10, 2008

Week 11 - Charlotte (10-17/1-10 East) dropped its final pair of A-10 road matches falling 3-2 to George Washington and 3-1 at Fordham. Freshman outside hitter Leah Leventhal (Gainesville, Fla.) earned her first Rookie of the Week honor after averaging 2.77 digs and 1.56 kills per set to help the 49ers. She just missed out on her first career double-double with nine kills and 13 digs against GW. Offensively, she scored 19 points on the weekend. .

Dayton (19-9/10-1 West) captured a 3-0 sweep over Xavier on Nov. 7 before falling 3-1 to Wright State on Nov. 8. It was the first time since 1992 that the Flyers swept Xavier in two regular season matches. Senior outside hitter Nicole Bateman (Columbus, Ind.) averaged 3.57 kills and 3.14 digs per set in seven sets on the weekend. She had a team-high 17 kills and added 13 digs in a loss against the Raiders.

Nov. 8 -  Wright State 3, Dayton 1

Duquesne (15-12/3-8 West) suffered a 3-0 sweep at the hands of No. 21 Saint Louis on Nov. 7 and fell 3-1 to Rhode Island on Nov. 8. Freshman middle hitter Liz Homan (Celina, Ohio) had a team-high 14 kills versus the Rams and classmate Tricia Mullen (Botkins, Ohio) finished with 17 digs in the match.

Nov. 7 -  Rhode Island 3, Duquesne 1

Fordham (17-15/5-7 East) split in Conference competition over the weekend with a 3-1 win over Charlotte on Nov. 8 and a 3-2 loss to George Washington on Nov. 9. Senior setter Katherine Burrell (Phoenix, Ariz.) just missed recording double-doubles in both matches and finished with 11.3 assists and 2.56 digs per set. She dished 63 assists and had 14 digs against George Washington for her 18th double-double of the season.

George Washington (16-10/7-4 East) finished 3-1 on the weekend with a pair of five-set Conference victories over both Charlotte and Fordham. The Colonials secured a berth in the A-10 Championship with the wins. Sophomore outside hitter Leah Hill (Ontario, N.Y.) hit a career-high 23 kills against Charlotte and added 22 kills against Fordham. She averaged 3.22 kills per set on the week.

La Salle (6-22/1-10 East) snapped a seven-match losing streak with a 3-2 win at Quinnipiac on Nov. 5. Senior outside hitter Jackie Kushman (Warrington, Pa.) led the way with 19 kills, 23 digs and added two aces and two assists in the win. She leads her squad in kills (219), digs (320) and is second in service aces (14). Freshman setter Kourtney Clark (Montgomery, N.Y.) added 26 assists in the win.
Nov. 5 -  La Salle 3, Quinnipiac 2

Rhode Island (13-13/5-7 West) split in Conference play this weekend after topping Duquesne 3-1 before falling 3-0 at No. 21 Saint Louis. Senior libero Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied a team-best 7.14 digs per set with 50 digs on the weekend. She had 29 in a win over Duquesne. She leads the team with a 4.2 average in digs.

Nov. 9 -  No. 21 Saint Louis 3, Rhode Island 0
 
Saint Louis (22-4/11-0 West) moved up to No. 20 in the latest Bison/AVCA top 25 poll. The Billikens swept Duquesne and Rhode Island in three sets to remain undefeated in the league and continue a 14 match winning streak. They have achieved 20 wins for the third straight season and have lost only five sets total in league play. Junior right-side hitter Sammi McCloud (Columbia, Ill.) earned co-Player of the Week honors after averaging 4.00 kills and 2.16 digs per set while hitting .396 in six sets.

Nov. 9 -  No. 21 Saint Louis 3, Rhode Island 0

Temple (15-11/6-5 East) captured a 3-0 win over Long Island on Nov. 5 in its only competition of the week. The Owls close Conference play at Charlotte and George Washington on Nov. 14 and 16, respectively. Junior outside hitter Yun Yi Zhang (Shanghai, China) was outstanding in the contest hitting .528 with 22 kills in just three sets. She added seven digs and a block to earn co-Player of the Week honors.
Nov. 5 -  Temple 3, Long Island 0  

Xavier (14-12/7-4 West) was swept  in three sets by Dayton for the second time this season in its only match of the week. The Musketeers close out the year versus Duquesne and No. 21 Saint Louis on Nov. 15 and 16, respectively. Junior outsider hitter Hillary Otte (Erlanger, Ky.) led the team with seven kills against UD.
