Duquesne, Xavier Claim Weekly Volleyball Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne junior Allison Foschia its Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week and Xavier senior Stephanie Vorherr the league's Defensive Players of the Week. Duquesne freshman Mary Henry took home her second straight Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the three awards, Tuesday for matches played Aug 27-Sept 3. Foschia, an outside hitter from Northfield Center, Ohio, collected three double-doubles in leading the Dukes to a 4-0 week. She tallied double-digit kills in each match and double-digit digs in three of the four matches to earn Most Outstanding Honors at the Duquesne Invitational. Foschia hit .380 for the week, including .520 (13 kills, 0 errors) against Norfolk State and .452 (15 kills, 1 error) versus Bucknell. She also averaged 3.69 kills per set while also tallying 3.23 digs and five total blocks. Vorherr broke Xavier's single-game digs record against Ole Miss, registering 46 digs in the match. She had previously set the Musketeers' record with 43 against Dayton (10/15) in 2010 and now holds seven of XU's top ten single-game marks for digs. Vorherr accumulated 79 digs, averaging 7.18 d/s, helping Xavier win two of the three matches in which she played this week. The senior from Cincinnati has 1,715 digs in her career and is just 14 shy of breaking Xavier's career record for digs. Henry, a setter from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., recorded 11.75 assists per set, tallying over 40 assists twice in Duquesne's 4-0 week. She led the Duquesne Invitational with 141 assists, with had 45 assists in the Dukes 3-1 win over Loyola (Md.) and 41 in a three-set win over Bucknell. Henry also had five kills, four aces, averaged 1.58 digs and had four total blocks.
