Hannan, Henry Named Weekly Volleyball Award Winners

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton sophomore Isolde Hannan its volleyball Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week while Duquesne freshman Mary Henry earned Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. The league announced the awards Monday for matches played Sept. 24-29.

Hannan totaled a team-high 25 kills, a .676 hitting percentage to earn the offensive award. The middle blocker posted 12 kills in 14 attempts to record an .857 hitting percentage on Friday in a 3-0 sweep of La Salle. The following night she had 13 kills and hit .550 against lead-leading Temple, handing the Owls their first league loss. The Dublin, Ohio native captured the defensive award by recording 14 total blocks for a per-set average of 2.33. She had a season-high 11 blocks against Temple Saturday night, recording a double-double in kills and blocks on Saturday to keep Dayton tied for first place in the league standings.

Henry won Rookie of the Week honors in keeping Duquesne perfect in league play with wins over Saint Louis and Butler. A setter from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Henry averaged 11.44 assists per set and 2.44 digs per set. As a setter, she was limited to six kills on 11 total attacks, but was error-free to post a hitting percentage of .545. The freshman also added six blocks. She had an outstanding match versus Saint Louis, recording six kills, 54 assists, 15 digs and five blocks in a 3-2 win over the Billikens.
