Top-Seeded Dayton Sweeps #5 Duquesne in Semifinal Match

DAYTON, Ohio – Two-time defending champion and top-seeded Dayton cruised to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-9) victory over #5 seeded Duquesne, Saturday evening during semifinal round action of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Championship at the Frericks Center on the campus of the University of Dayton.

With the win, Dayton (23-6) advances to the Championship match for the ninth straight year and will seek to claim the program’s seventh title in the last nine years, while Duquesne concludes its season with a 19-13 overall record.

The Flyers, who hit an impressive .439 for the match, were led by A-10 Setter of the Year Samantha Selsky. Selsky hit .833 with five kills, while registering 35 assists, nine digs and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Yvonne Marten was equally as instrumental in the win, posting a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs.

Duquesne hit just .041 for the match. Junior setter Taylor Jones had 19 assists for the Dukes, while junior outside hitter Sara Scheirman and sophomore outside hitter Allison Foschia had five kills apiece.

The 2011 A-10 Volleyball Championship will continue on Saturday evening, as #2 seed Xavier and #3 seed Saint Louis battle in the second semifinal match of the day at 7:30PM. All matches from the six-team, single-elimination event are scheduled to be webcast free of charge through the A-10's online home -- Atlantic10.com.
