LEXINGTON, Ky.- Five Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2009 AVCA Div. I Northeast Division All-Regional Team. Dayton's Lindsay Fletemier, Bridget Fonke, Sammi McCloud and Whitney Roth of Saint Louis and Temple's Yi Yun Zhang all earned AVCA regional honors.
Fletemier, a junior middle blocker and the A-10 Co-Player of the Year, finished the season averaging 3.47 kills per set and a .389 attack efficiency. She ranks eighth in program history with 1,223 kills and fourth in block assists with 331.
The three seniors from Saint Louis were a part of the third winningest class in Saint Louis history. McCloud garnered her second straight A-10 Player of the Year honor, sharing the award with Fletemier, while Roth earned her third straight Setter of the Year honor and holds the program record for set assists with over 5,000. McCloud is just the fifth player in program history who is a member of both the 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig clubs and Fonke finished ranked among the program's career top 15 in three statistical categories service aces, kills and solo blocks.
Zhang's 5.55 kills per set were tops in the nation as she helped the Owls to a 14-12 record and an appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinal against nationally-ranked Dayton. The senior middle hitter was named to the A-10 First Team and finished her Temple career with 1,656 kills to rank third all-time in the history of the program.
